Our annual Tree Shredding Sunday takes place on 7th January 2018 from 12pm to 2pm
We will be joined by Acacia Tree Surgery, Wheelie Fresh Bins, Girton Allotment Society, Sustainable Girton, Smartkidz and Repair Café volunteers (see below) to bring some January recycling fun to the school hall.
Acacia Tree Surgery will shred your Christmas tree for a small donation towards the school, and if you bring your Christmas tree along in your wheelie bin, you can get that cleaned at the same time by Wheelie Fresh Bins, again for a small donation to school.
Sustainable Girton and FOGG bring you Girton’s second…Repair Cafe!
Do you have something that’s broken, that you think could be repaired if only you knew how? Sustainable Girton and FOGG are hosting Girton’s second Repair Care on January 7th 2018 during the Tree Shredding event at Girton Glebe. The idea is really simple – people who have stuff that needs to be fixed get together with people who can help them fix it – and you can pick up some simple repair skills at the same time!

- THE REPAIR CAFE MOVEMENT
We hope to be able to repair small household gadgets and electricals, computers, bikes, clean clothes and small fiddly bits and bobs. If you already know that your item will need a spare part (e.g. new mobile phone screen, new zip) please bring this along so that the repairers can do the repair.
Please book in your item by emailing us (foggrepaircafe@gmail.com) with your name, the type of item, and one sentence about what’s wrong with it (if you know) – we’ll email to confirm if someone will be able to help fix your item.
You can also just turn up on the day – we can’t guarantee to fix it, but will do our best. (However, if you let us know what you are bringing before hand, there is a better chance that we’ll be able to bring the right tools to fix it.)
If you’d like to lend a hand, let us know what you can repair and we’ll be in touch to let you know if people will bring things that you can work on. (foggrepaircafe@gmail.com)
As part of the Tree Shred event there will be a cafe selling cakes and hot drinks. We will also be welcoming Girton Allotment Society who will be selling home-made soup and bread.
The Repair Cafe movement is growing rapidly, and is all about people helping each other out, learning how to fix things which are fixable, and keeping stuff out of landfill.
