As a committee we are very aware that school may need to call on us more than ever to help support our children as they return in September (fingers crossed!). Children may need extra support not only in catching up in lessons but in supporting their mental health and wellbeing too. FOGG want to be there to support this. Sadly, we have had several of our big fundraising events cancelled this year.
After much thought we have decided to run three virtual events before the end of term that are both for fun and if you are able to, can offer us a fundraising opportunity.
“Walkathon.”
We would like to ask all the children to take part in a sponsored “walkathon” in the week commencing July 13th. The idea is that your child (with your support) walks “to school and back” for 5 days. You may like to physically do just that or you could work out how far this would be and do one or two longer walks. (We think a good average for walking to school and back each day would be 5 miles.)
The most important thing is to take part and have fun. We would love to see pictures of you on your walks. You can send them to contactfogg@gmail.com (if we can post them on our website) or tweet them to @FOGirtonGlebe. Please use the #s #sponsoredwalk and #schoolcommunity if tweeting.
You can ask your family and friends to sponsor you if you feel that is appropriate at this difficult time and for those of you who wish to do so, a sponsorship form is attached with details of what to do with it. FOGG can claim ‘gift aid’ on all sponsorship donations made by taxpayers, ie. an extra 25p for every £1 sponsored! In the current climate, we would prefer online donations which can be made at https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/13721. However, if you prefer, you can return the sponsorship form and all the collected money, in an envelope marked “FOGG – Walkathon”, through the school letter box by Tuesday 21st July 2020. Cheques should be made payable to “Friends of Girton Glebe”. Please remember it is vital to return the completed sponsor form, for us to be able to take advantage of gift aid.
“Virtual Cake Sale”
Several classes have missed out on their bake sales this year. We thought it might be fun to have a virtual cake sale on Friday 17th July (the last Friday of term.) Perhaps you could bake with your child/children and then send or post pictures to the FOGG email or twitter accounts. If you are able, you could also make a donation to FOGG as you would at a normal cake sale. You can donate here https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/13722. We would love to see pictures of your cakes with or without a donation. Pictures can be sent to contactfogg@gmail.com (to be put on our website) or tweeted to @FOGirtonGlebe. Please use the #s #virtualcakesale and #schoolcommunity if tweeting.
“End of term Film”
Another school tradition that those children not in school will be missing this year is the end of term film! Join us on the last day of term, Wednesday 22nd July at 1pm, to watch a film on BBC iPlayer. We suggest watching one of the following:
Billionaire Boy https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b06t0xym/billionaire-boy
